Chemo round 4 .. you don’t get what you don’t ask for

So Emily and I went for my regular bi Tuesday blood work and oncologist

appointment in preparation of Wed chemo at the Cross then at home chemo Thursday ,Friday with disconnection day Friday

When we got there they said I was a day early and my Dr and clinic and chemo days were all changed ,which would make Sat an at home chemo and disconnect day . This was all upsetting for me . They were able to accommodate me for blood work and appointment but chemo was changed .

We spent almost the entire appointment talking about chemo fatigue and how real it is and how it generally is cumulative so will get worse over my next 5 treatments . I must say it is daunting to look at an entire summer of such fatigue .

I really have a mental block about chemo on a sat . Feels like a burden to have to disconnect on Sat . This would mean tying down Emily every other Sat or asking a nurse friend on the weekend , or driving to the Cross which would mean arranging a ride or child care it was just too much for me .

So I thought of my Dad and he always said you won’t get what you don’t ask for . So that’s what I did but thought if I toss in some humour that may help too.

I explained to the nurse my reasons for not wanting to change and added in (ready for the humorous part ??) that I had already paid for a high intensity aerobics class for Saturday’s through the summer and couldn’t cancel !

  1. So, was your request granted? I hope so…🤞
I’m sure the fatigue is almost unbearable, but it’s summer and a time to relax, so use it to your advantage. “Oh, no, I am way too tired to … I’m just going to sit in the lawn chair in the shade and try to regain some strength.”
I hope everyone is taking good care of you!

  2. Hope they accommodated. Glad you are keeping your sense of humour. Let me know if I can help with rides or any other way might need.

  3. I hope they seriously consider your request. Also hoping the sunshine of summer and the break from the kids school schedule will help you through the fatigue that you are facing. Get yourself a super comfy lawn chair and snooze away in the fresh air. Hugs to you.

  4. Oh my goodness, aerobics scares me off! Thanks for sharing Susan. I’m so sorry that you and Ken and the kids had to experience another loss. My heart breaks for you and the challenges you have right now. Waiting for the better days of wellness! Love Tam

  5. These stories are getting stressful….you’re leaving us all in suspense about the aerobics…I know what to do…take Kenny there on Saturday in his aerobics outfit…tell them it was his class… He can wear his old bathing suit from high school…mine still fits me so his probably does too…its amazing how much that material can stretch….Try it with Kenny…one Saturday will be enough for them to change the schedule.

  6. Susan, your sense of humour will get you through this. its life in a nutshell. Its making me stressed just listening to it all so I cannot imagine how you must be feeling. So many challenges that you just do not need. Hoping for better days ahead for you and your family. Try to stay positive. Fern

  7. Gosh , Susan ,this was just added stress you did not need . Your Dad was right , if you don’t ask you won’t get what you want.
So happy that it got sorted out .
Hang on to that sense of humour of yours .Sending hugs 💞🌈☀️
